Harry B. Garber

Harry Bernard Garber, 91, a lifelong resident of Butler, passed away June 3 in Upland, Calif. Surrounded by his loving family, he died of complications resulting from ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease.

Harry was born in Butler on Oct. 20, 1920, the son of Francis and Alma Garber. He was raised by his loving paternal aunts Kate, Rachel and Marie Garber. He graduated from Butler High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1942, where he served in the Philippines until his separation in 1945. Employed by Armco Steel for 40 years, he retired in 1983 as a metallurgical technician.

On Aug. 18, 1951, Harry married Angela D. Puvak, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

Harry was a longstanding member of Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served his community through his work with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and served as a Eucharistic minister at Saint Paul's.

Harry may rest knowing that he has left behind a loving family and led a life of service to others in his community. His love and sense of humor will be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife; four sons, Christopher of Clairton, Barry and his wife, Blanche, of Virginia, Brian and his wife, Nancy, of California and Tim and his wife, Thy, of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Mary K. Grunder of California; his grandchildren, Alan, Andrew, and Michael Garber, Shawn Faloney Garber, John T. Grunder and Ryan Kelly; his great-grandchildren, Taylor and Caitlynn Kelly; his sister, Anne McKinney and her husband, Wes, of Sharon; his brother, Richard Garber and his wife, Jean, of Tampa, Fla.; and his cousins, Brady, Michael, Clint and Greg Garber.

GARBER — Friends of Harry Bernard Garber, who died Sunday, June 3, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler on Tuesday at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.St. Paul's Catholic Women will recite the Rosary ay 12:40 p.m. Tuesday at the church.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in honor of Harry B.
