Six Butler BlueSox players will participate in the Prospect League All-Star Game Wednesday night at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill.

Pitcher Jared Locke and catcher Matt Albaugh will be the starting battery for the East Division. Locke is 3-1 with a 2.41 earned run average, 45 strikeouts in 33.2 innings pitched. Albaugh is hitting .328 with three homers and 27 runs scored.

Shortstop Elliott Caldwll, second baseman Jason Radwan, pitcher Kyle Thomas and closer Adam Dian also made the squad.

Caldwell leads the league with a .415 batting average and leads Butler with 27 RBI. Radwan is hitting .310 with 21 RBI and a team-leading 23 walks.

Dian has 37 strikeouts in 16 appearances and leads the league with 10 saves. Thomas has a 3.08 ERA, 45 strikeouts and 13 walks in 30 innings.

Mars grad Smith earns all-academicHUNTINGDON — Vinnie Smith, a 2009 graduate of Mars High School and a senior at Juniata College, has been named to the Landmark Conference Spring All-Academic Team.Smith, who set personal bests in the 200-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles this past season, is studying marketing and entrepreneurship. he is the founder of a student business and earned the president-selected Endowed Merit Award in Business Administration.

GCC taps Buxton as tennis coachGROVE CITY — Grove City College has hired Jeff Buxton as its head men’s and women’s tennis coach.He will also teach courses in exercise science, fitness and wellness. Buxton has been general manager of One on One Fitness Consultants in State College the past nine years.Buxton replaces Joe Walters, who retired this season after 40 years of service.

Derkacz joins SRU soccer staffSLIPPERY ROCK — Former Penn State Behrend men’s and women’s soccer assistant coach Casey Derkacz has joined the Slippery Rock university women’s soccer team as an assistant coach.
