PITTSBURGH — State police are investigating how a van from the State Correctional Institution-Pittsburgh plunged into the nearby Ohio River.

Crews were working to pull the van out of the river today, hours after the as-of-yet-unexplained crash.

A prison spokeswoman says police and prison officials have been trying to piece together the incident, which happened shortly before dawn when the van drove off a road behind the prison and into the river.
