Butler Fair
FRANKLIN TWP — The 157th annual Big Butler Fair will run June 29 through July 7 with three new events.
This year will be the first time the Big Butler Fair will have two bike nights, a square dancing event and a camel attraction.
The first bike night will be June 29, and the second will be July 7. Everyone who rides a motorcycle to the gate will receive free admission. Bikers can park their motorcycles around the track during the carnival.
Also new this year is square dancing. It will begin at 7 p.m. June 30 in the dairy barn and is open to the public.
“The Junior Fair Board felt we needed something different,” said Ben Roenigk, vice-president of the Butler Fair and Agricultural Association. “I did too.”
Another addition to this year's fair will be the camel attraction. Bar C Ranch will bring camels and tortoises along with animals that people can pet and feed. Additionally, camel rides are available for a fee.
The fair will kick off on June 29 with a free concert featuring the Clarks and the Earthquakers at 7 p.m.
June 30 will have the big rig and semi-truck pulls at 7 p.m. and the beginning of animal judging.
The school bus demolition derby will be at 7 p.m. July 1, and the car demolition derby will be at 7 p.m. July 2.
A concert by Rusted Root will be at 8 p.m. July 3. The concert is free with gate admission.To celebrate July 4, the fair will host a freestyle motocross motorcycle show followed by fireworks at dusk.July 5 will feature the Smoker Series tractor and pro-tractor pulls, beginning at 7 p.m.The 4x4 truck pull will begin at 7 p.m. July 6. The draft horse pull will take place the same night in the barn.On July 7 there will be a concert featuring Lonestar with special guest Casey James. Gates open at 6 p.m. The concert is free with gate admission.The carnival opens at 1 p.m. daily and will feature six free attractions, including the sea lion show, a wood carver, an illusionist, a petting zoo, the camel rides and a fishing tank.“There's plenty to do, that's for sure, for everyone of all ages,” Roenigk said.
