ALIQUIPPA — Two men have been ordered to stand trial in the death of an elderly Western Pennsylvania man beaten during a home invasion.

A report says 22-year-old Beau Chermer and 25-year-old Joseph Arlott were ordered to trial after Tuesday’s Beaver County hearing. The McKees Rocks men are charged with homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, robbery and other counts.

Authorities allege they forced their way into the Hopewell Township home of 81-year-old Dan Santia on April 29 and beat him before stealing jewelry and his car. Santia died several weeks later.

A report says Arlott’s attorney, Michael DeRiso, said he doesn’t believe the victim’s death was related to his injuries. Chermer’s attorney, Brent McCune, said Santia was alive after the assailants left and “nobody tried to kill him.”
