CALIFORNIA, Pa. — The State System of Higher Education says it fired the president of California University of Pennsylvania last month “for cause” — although the state agency isn't listing the specific reason.

The SSHE Board of Governors fired Angelo Armenti Jr. on May 16, at which time Armenti says he was told his firing was not for cause. That meant he'd be paid for two years remaining on his contract, though Armenti says state officials threatened to fire him for cause if he sued.

Armenti hasn't sued, but has threatened to and now the SSHE says the firing was “for cause” after all.

PHILADELPHIA — The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia spent $11.6 million on legal fees in the past two fiscal years, most of it on priest sex abuse cases, according to a financial report released Tuesday.The figure includes $10 million in the first nine months of the current fiscal year that ends June 30, with the rest being spent the prior fiscal year.The sum does not yet include most of the extensive costs associated with the ongoing criminal trial of Monsignor William Lynn, charged in a groundbreaking conspiracy and cover-up case that is now in a jury's hands.
