JEFFERSON TWP — Knoch’s Mindy Norris has been named Division 2 all-section in girls lacrosse.

She was also selected as a WPIAL Division 2 all-star.

SV grad Peluso HM All-AmericanPITTSBURGH — Seneca Valley graduate Derek Peluso, a senior pitcher at Point Park University, has been named honorable mention NAIA All-American.Peluso won 10 games this season, had 74 strikeouts in 77 2-3 innings pitched and a 2.90 ERA. His 19 career wins are fifth on Point Park’s all-time list while his 206 1-3 innings pitched rank fourth, his 159 strikeouts third.

Mars’ Bender selected by NAHLPITTSBURGH — Mars senior Joseph Bender, a forward on the Pittsburgh Viper Stars amateur hockey team, has been selected in the sixth round by the North American Hockey League’s Johnstown Tomahawks.The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Bender had 18 goals and 25 assists in 69 games for the 18-under Viper Stars this year.

BCC pro McClellan wins Tri-State OpenNEW CASTLE — Butler Country Club pro Rob McClellan shot a 69-69—138 to win the 2012 Tri-State Open Tuesday at New Castle Country Club.McClellan won by a four-stroke margin over amateur Mark Cimarolli.Dennis Munko of Birdsfoot Golf Club carded a 146, Joe Boros of Treesdale and John Aubrey of Aubreys Dubbs Dred a 148.

Butler Road Race slated for June 23The 37th annual Butler Road Race, presented by Butler Health System, will be held at 9 a.m. June 23 at the Butler County Courthouse.The 5-Mile Run/2K Health Walk and Run provides academic scholarships for graduating cross-country runners from the eight Butler County high schools.Applications can be obtained by calling 724-284-4676, downloaded at www.butlerroadrace.org or picked up at the Butler Family YMCA, Miller’s Shoes, Robert Stephens Jewelers, Up’N Running and the Workingman’s Store.
