SUSAN'S 10 TIPS
Susan Reagan offers these tips for creating a butterfly garden:
• Do not be afraid to move a plant if it does not like its location.
• Nurture your soil because it’s one of the most important parts of growing beautiful, healthy plants.
• Use native plants.
• Avoid invasive plants.
• Add plants that give year-round interest; beautiful colors for the fall, hollies and other evergreens for the holidays.
• Be kind to the environment; pull weeds instead of spraying them; use organic fertilizers and avoid insecticides.
• Do your research: know your zone, soil type and pay attention to frost dates.
• Grow plants that butterflies and birds love.
• Grow your own herbs and vegetables, using small-space techniques if you have little room.
• Share plants with others.
