PHILADELPHIA — A man will stand trial on charges he threw a cup of hot coffee on a Philadelphia doughnut shop worker, burning her arm.

David Timbers, 52, apologized to the victim after a court hearing Wednesday. He says it was the biggest mistake of his life.

Authorities say the employee required medical treatment after the dispute May 8 at Fresh Donuts in west Philadelphia.

Store surveillance video shows a man who says he paid for a sandwich taking the cup from the clerk and throwing it at her.

She screams in pain, and the man leaves despite others’ efforts to detain him.
