George Mourer

George K. Mourer, 63, of Garing Road, Chicora, died at his home at 5:40 p.m. Monday surrounded by his family following a two-year battle with a brain tumor.

George was born in St. Marys on April 6, 1949. He was the son of the late John Kenneth and Mary Spangler Mourer.

He was a 1967 graduate of Karns City High School. He attended Butler County Community College and Kansas State University.

He was employed at Pullman Standard in Butler for 12 years. Following its closure, George began a 28-year career with Pennsylvania Wine and Spirits. He had been employed at liquor stores in Apollo, Parker, Harmony and Seven Fields and retired from the Moraine Pointe Plaza store in Butler.

George was a member of the Sons of Italy, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling and playing tricks on people. He had many good friends and was always ready to help any of them. George especially loved his grandchildren. He was a great husband, father and pappy. George was an extremely hard worker, having built his own house and barn, and was always working on projects around his property. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland and belonged to the church's Altar rosary Society.

George is survived by his wife, Marilyn Landgraf Mourer, who he married at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville on June 19, 1971. Also surviving are a son, Matthew Mourer and his wife, Stacey, of Chicora; a daughter, Pamela Carden and her husband, Chuck, of Chicora; four grandchildren, Dylan, Olivia and Noah Mourer and Rosalie Carden; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

<B>MOURER</B> — Friends of George K. Mourer, who died Monday, April 23, 2012, will be received at the <B>Hile Funeral Home of Chicora</B>, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery. A parish prayer service will be at 8:15 p.m. today at the funeral home.Memorial contributions in Mr. Mourer’s name may be made to the VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to the American Cancer Society.Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
