September 22, 1959 — May 18, 2008

Dear Dad,

Four years ago today you passed away. Our lives were suddenly shattered. Since then we’ve tried putting the pieces back together, but there’s always something missing. . .

Your smiling face. Your laughter. Your opinion. Your “I told you so” when we failed to listen.

We still wait for you to walk through the door. We still listen for your laughter. Your shoes are still sitting by door; waiting for you to put them on. Your seat at the table is often left empty.

Things will never, ever be the same as they once were. We try to adjust to our new “normal”, but that’s a difficult thing to do when it doesn’t include you. We attempt to do things the same way you would have, but without your advice and guidance sometimes it feels like we’re just guessing.

We’re ever thankful for the memories we’ve shared; we just wish we had more of them. We’re also grateful for the family and friends who support us each and every day. We know they understand a little, because they miss you too. You’re a piece of our lives that we are definitely missing.
