Leslie Evan 'Les' Delaney
Leslie Evan “Les” Delaney, 79, of Worthington, formerly of Karns City, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Sugar Creek Rest following an extended illness.
Les was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Petrolia, moved to Criswell in 1971, and then to the Armstrong Retirement Village, near Sugar Creek Rest in Worthington, in 2010.
He was employed at Witco Chemical, now Sonneborn, in Petrolia for more than 30 years, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was the beloved husband of Delphine (Pettigrew) Delaney, who he married on Oct. 20, 1952.
He is survived by three children, Kathy King (Mike) of Butler, Bob Delaney (Priscilla) of Pittsburgh and Bryan Delaney (Marcie) of Harmony; seven grandchildren; a brother, James Delaney (Eleanor) of Fredricksburg; and many nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as “Unk.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph (Todd) Delaney; his mother, Minnie (Duespohl) Delaney; brothers, Lloyd, Lemoine and Lester Delaney; and a sister, Leona Rottman.
Les had a passion for many hobbies and interests over the decades. In the 1950s to the 1960s, his passion was riding motorcycles. In the 1960s to the 1970s his interests turned to horseback riding and farming. He and his family attended many trail rides around Western Pennsylvania and he was a member of the Sligo Saddle Club. In the 1980s his interests turned to raising goats and he became a member of the Butler County Goat Club.
Les loved country music his entire life, and since the 1990s, he was an avid fan of bluegrass music. He and Delphine traveled to bluegrass festivals all over the region, and as far north as Canada, pulling their beloved “little house” thousands of miles to enjoy the music and the friendships they made along the way.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora.
<B>DELANEY </B>— Friends of Leslie E. Delaney, who died Saturday, April 14, 2012, will be received at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower officiating. Family and friends traveling from out of town are welcome to arrive between 10 and 11 a.m. to pay their final respects before the funeral service.
