Valerie J. Masarik Mitchell
Valerie J. Masarik Mitchell, 92, of Buffalo Township passed away Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia in Cabot.
She was born May 29, 1919, in Natrona Heights, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Talda Masarik.
Valerie was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph High School. She, along with her husband, were the former owners of Mitchell's Market in Brackenridge until 1959 and the owners of the Saxon Inn in Natrona Heights until 1971.
Valerie was a member of the Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Parish and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Natrona Heights. She enjoyed sewing, reading, fishing, crossword puzzles and gardening.
Valerie is survived by her children, William (Laura) Mitchell of Lower Burrell, Carole (George) Fries of Chambersburg, Marcia Hill of Tuscon, Ariz., and Keith (Bonnie) Mitchell of Cranberry Township; eight grandchildren, William (Brooke) Mitchell, Laurie (Steve) Suhy, George (Michele) Fries III, Erin (James) Taylor, Benjamin M. Hill, Michael (Ronda) Mitchell, Karol S. Mitchell and Emily Jane Mitchell; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Jane) Masarik of Natrona Heights and Larry (Mary Ann) Masarik of Frazer Township; sisters, Martha Mason of Natrona Heights and Mary Ann Misutka of Tarentum; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Mitchell, on Jan. 20, 2005; her brothers, August, Joseph and Robert Masarik; and her sister, Sophie Kramarik.
