Robert C. Mattern
Robert C. Mattern, 70, of Vosler Road, Volant, passed away Monday morning at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford.
Born Feb. 13, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of Clarence and Mary Atamanec Mattern.
He is survived by his first wife, Janet Flament Mattern, who he married in 1965.
He subsequently married the former Jacqueline V. Lorence on Sept. 25, 2004. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2010.
He attended Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Marines as a sharpshooter.
Bob was employed as a manufacturers representative for industrial products and later with Billco Motors.
He enjoyed cooking all of his life and sharing the food with others. Bob was active and athletic and enjoyed playing football for his high school.
He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church where he was active with the Awana group. He also managed Unity Baptist Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Tami LaGattuta of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Mark Mattern of Jacksonville, Fla., and California; a stepson, Darryl Lawther of Volant; a sister, Jane Pillar of Gibsonia; two grandchildren, Sterling Mattern and Gabriel Mattern of Florida; and several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Jacqueline.
<B>MATTERN</B> — Visitation for Robert C. Mattern, who passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Unity Baptist Church, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at noon Saturday at the church. Military rites will be given by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. The Rev. Zach Dudenhofer and the Rev. Gerald Caskey will officiate.
