Helen Blisak Buckowsky
Helen Blisak Buckowsky, 88, of Lyndora, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon surrounded by her loving family in her home.
She was born Nov. 2, 1923, in the same house in Lyndora where she died. She was a daughter of John and Justina Kukura Blisak.
A graduate of Butler High School, Helen later earned an associate degree from Butler County Community College.
She retired as a caseworker for the Butler County Assistance Office, where she worked for 16 years. In her younger years, she worked in the accounting department of the Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing Co. During the time her husband served in the U.S. Air Force, Helen was employed by the Air Force Base Judge Advocate's Office.
An active member of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Lyndora, she served for many years as the choir director, a past president of the Sisterhood, as a member of the church council and had led the perogie makers and sales program.
She was the widow of Peter Buckowsky, who died April 22, 1995. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are her two sons and their spouses, John and Linda Buckner of Butler and Tom and Gail Buckner of Gibsonia; two grandsons, Brady and Matt Buckner; one sister, Tillie Porter of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
<B>BUCKOWSKY</B> — Friends of Helen Blisak Buckowsky, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, will be received at St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 201 Penn Ave., Lyndora, from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Her pastor, the Very Rev. Joseph D. Wargo, will officiate.
