George Conroy

George John Conroy, 90, of Butler passed away at 6:25 a.m. Thursday at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Pittsburgh to the late Charles S. Conroy and Caroline A. Greller Conroy.

Mr. Conroy was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during World War II.

He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Mines, retiring in February of 1982. He then taught as a professor at Pennsylvania State University, Fayette Campus. Mr. Conroy was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church.

Mr. Conroy is survived by his wife, Florence M. (Ginther) Conroy, who he married Nov. 28, 1958; one son, C. Thomas Conroy of Export, Pa.; two daughters, Theresa Marie Pronic of Butler and Patricia Ann Thompson of Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Sean Thomas Conroy, Samantha Adriana Conroy, Megan Cassie Conroy, Amanda Louise Pronic and Sara Lynn Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles F. Conroy and two sisters, Florence E. Jones and Genevieve C. Lydon.

<B>CONROY</B> — Friends of George John Conroy, 90, who passed away on March 8, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with Father James Murphy officiating.Burial will take place in the Holy Savior Cemetery, Gibsonia.Information and a private guest book are available at www.thompson-miller.com.
