SRU softball earns split

Slippery Rock University rebounded from a 13-1 defeat in Game 1 to defeatt California (Pa.) 6-4 to earn a split in a softball doubleheader against the PSAC West leading Vulcans on Friday.

Elizibeth Gorges belted two home runs in the nightcap.

SRU’s victory snapped a four-game losing streak and improved its record to 9-12 overall, 2-6 in the PSAC West while Cal fell to 24-6, 6-2.

Kirsten Brant (Knoch) accounted for the Rock’s lone run in the early game. An eight-run uprising in the fifth inning ended the game.

But, in the second contest, Gorges went 3-for-3 and added two runs and three RBI.

Katie Saluga added two hits and an RBI and Natalie Atkinson drove in two runs.

Ashley Knight tossed a complete game for SRU and added 10 strikeouts.
