SRU women stun No. 12 IUP
The Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team upset No. 12 Indiana (Pa.) by an 18-13 margin Thursday night for the program’s first-ever victory over the Crimson Hawks.
Lauren Laubach led the way for SRU with six goals while Casey Quinn added four goals.
Amy Halls chipped in three goals and Emma VanDenburg had a team-high three assists. Natalie Crenshaw tallied 12 saves.
The Rock (6-4, 3-3) closed the game on a 7-1 run to hand IUP (8-2, 5-1) its first loss in PSAC play.
Track and Field
Butler graduate Katelyn Wetzel played a role in three of seven wins for the the Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team on Thursday at the SRU Open.
Wetzel won the 100- and 200-meter dash with times of 12.49 and 25.62 seconds, respectively. The freshman also ran a leg of the winning 400 relay with Jayme Stanek, Samantha Zampetti and Christina Ransom.
The men’s track and field team won nine events at the SRU Open, including victories from Seneca Valley graduate Hunter Williams in the 400 dash (49.99) and Slippery Rock High product Ethan Geisler in the 400 hurdles (54.21).
D.J. Chisom (100 dash), Jaron Martin (5,000 run), Dan Hedglin (110 hurdles), Ryan Camody (pole vault), and Terrace Draper (triple jump) were also individual winners for SRU.
