Collier

Harold W. “Hallie” Collier, 70, of Pine Ridge Drive, Chicora, died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday in the VNA Inpatient Hospice following an extended illness.

He was born, raised and lived most of his life in Chicora. He was employed at Witco, now Sonneborn, in Petrolia for 35 years. He served with the National Guard for five years out of the Butler Division.

Hallie had a passion for trains and bought one of the last existing cabooses and displayed it beside his home. Hallie and his wife, Connie, also enjoyed years of square dancing as members of the Alamo Square Dance Club in Frogtown. He enjoyed impersonating Elvis Presley. His heroes were John Wayne, Roy Rodgers and Clayton Moore, “The Lone Ranger.” He had the privilege of meeting Roy Rodgers and Clayton Moore.

He enjoyed hunting at Camp Hermit in Warren County. He loved traveling and camping throughout the U.S. and wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., for many years, but he loved his hometown of Chicora and always had a smile for all who knew him.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chicora and the Chicora Senior Center.

Married for 45 years, 22 of those years battling dementia, he was lovingly cared for by his adoring wife, Connie Crispen Collier.
