Rock baseball sweeps Clarion
The Slippery Rock University baseball team scored 22 runs and pounded out 24 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Clarion University Saturday afternoon.
The Rock won the first game, 12-1, and captured the nightcap 10-5.
Carter Haponski and Lee Foxon each had four hits in the two games. Haponski also had four runs scored and three RBIs in the doubleheader.
Lou Trivino got the win in the first game, striking out nine and walking two in the complete-game win.
Trivino, a sophomore right-hander, allowed just five hits to run his record to 5-2.
John Kovalik got the win in the second game in relief of starting pitcher Nic McCowin.
The wins brought The Rock back to .500 in the PSAC at 6-6 and improved the club's overall record to 13-17.
Amy Halls and Holly Webb each scored three goals to lead The Rock lacrosse team to a 13-9 win over Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon.Casey Quinn and Morgan Pettit each added two goals for SRU (5-3, 1-2), which finished the week with three straight wins.
Sarah Lynch and Samantha Bruggeman each won singles and doubles matches to lead The Rock to a 5-4 win over West Virginia State University at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford Saturday.The win is the ninth straight for SRU (14-2).Lynch won her singles match 6-3, 6-3 and then teamed up with Dunja Drmac to win an 8-4 decision in their doubles match.Bruggeman won her singles match 6-4, 6-0 and then partnered with Janelle Krantz for an 8-5 doubles victory.
