DUNEDIN, Fla. — The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired right-hander Ryota Igarashi from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday for a player to be named and cash.

The 32-year-old Igarashi signed a minor league contract with Pittsburgh on Dec. 19. He was released by the New York Mets last October.

Igarashi had an 8.68 ERA in nine games with the Pirates during spring training.

He was 4-1 with one save and a 4.66 ERA in 45 relief appearances last year for the Mets.

Payton appealing year suspension NEW YORK — Saints coach Sean Payton is appealing his season-long suspension from the NFL for his role in New Orleans’ bounty system. And he’s not the only one looking for a little relief from the penalties handed down by Commissioner Roger Goodell.General manager Mickey Loomis, assistant coach Joe Vitt and the Saints organization each decided to appeal on Friday.

Leaf arrested for burglary, drugs HELENA, Mont. — Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested in his hometown of Great Falls on burglary and drug possession charges.Great Falls Police Sgt. Dean Bennett, confirmed Leaf’s arrest but said he had not seen a report detailing the allegations against Leaf.Leaf was booked on felony charges of burglary of a residence and criminal possession of dangerous drugs, plus a first-time charge of misdemeanor theft.

Kentucky’s Davis player of year NEW ORLEANS — Anthony Davis became the first Kentucky player and second freshman to be selected The Associated Press’ Player of the Year.No Kentucky player had won the award since it started in 1961. Missouri’s Frank Haith won the Coach of the Year honor.

Houston Open rain delayed HUMBLE, Texas — Brian Davis and Louis Oosthuizen shared the lead at 11 under after two days of play in the rain-delayed Houston Open.The second round was suspended due to darkness with 70 players still on the course.
