Evans City councilman Painter resigns
EVANS CITY — Bill Painter resigned his seat on the borough council Friday after nearly seven years.
Painter, first elected in 2005 at age 19, served as council president from 2009 until 2011.
The young politician said he already wasn’t going to seek re-election next year because of a new state job as an auditor. Under conflict of interest rules, Painter was allowed to finish out his current term but was barred from seeking re-election.
The council now must appoint someone to finish out the last year of Painter’s term. His seat will be open in 2013.
Painter cited an increase in work travel and his family for reasons why he stepped down prematurely.
The combination of a wife who also works and a 14-month old son “prevents me from having the time and energy for certain activities I used to participate in,” he said.
