Edward R. Miller, 87, of Saxonburg passed away on Monday at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.

Born in Springdale on Oct. 26, 1924, he was the son of Felix Miller and Fannie Moser Miller.

He graduated from Butler High School in January 1943. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge while serving in Gen. George Patton's Third Army during three campaigns in Europe.

He received his bachelor of science degree from Thiel College in 1950, where he also served on the board of directors.

He was in the insurance business and in car sales. He formerly owned and operated the custard stand in Cabot. He served on the Camp Lutherlyn staff for 30 years as business manager, executive director and development director. He was a member and office holder in the Western Pennsylvania section of the American Camping Association.

Ed was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler from 1959 to 2006, serving four times on the church council and on numerous committees. He was a liturgist, lector, communion assistant, usher and greeter, delegated to the annual Synodical Assembly 37 times and served on several committees and the board, including stewardship, outdoor ministries, property committee and several ad hoc committees and task forces. He was currently a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Saxonburg. He was elected as a voting member of the national assembly for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America three times.

Ed was a charter member of the VFW Post 7376 in Saxonburg, a member of the American Legion Post 683 in Saxonburg and served for seven years on the original Butler Township Planning Committee in the 1960s.

Ed was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He was a loving father, grandfather and a good Christian. His hobbies included reading, walking, gardening, and playing bridge and pool.

Surviving are his loving children, Edward (Pam) Miller Jr. of Lanesville, Ind., Debra (George) Bennitt of West Chester, Pa., and Michelle (Richard) Davanzati of Butler; six grandchildren, Madeline Miller, Justin, Tanya, George and Zachary Bennitt and Mara Davanzati; and one great-grandson, Finn Bennitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen M. (Weber) Miller, who passed away Dec. 6, 2009; one infant daughter, Colleen; three brothers; and two sisters.

<B>MILLER</B> — Friends of Edward R. Miller, who passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Main Street, Saxonburg, with the Rev Roger G.
