SRU's Ianno tosses no-no

Slippery Rock University softball pitcher Shaylee Ianno hurled a no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over host Glenville State Friday.

The only two blemishes in her performance came when Glenville State's Carlee Chatron reached on an error in the fourth inning and Lacey Metheney walked in the fifth.

Ianno struck out six and received all the offense she would need in the top of the third when she scored on Natalie Atkinson's double.

The second game did not turn out in SRU's favor as Glenville State tallied all of its runs in the first three innings in a 6-0 defeat of The Rock (7-6).

Stephanie Collenette managed two of SRU's five hits in the loss.

Ashley Knight started the game in the circle and suffered the loss after surrendering six runs (five earned) in two innings of work.

SRU blew a 4-0 lead in Game One and a 5-0 edge in Game Two and ended up losing both at Lock Haven on Friday by scores of 5-4 and 9-5, respectively. The Rock’s Brandon Myers singled and homered in the first contest, but starting pitcher Zach Jeney and reliever John Kovalik combined to allow five runs in the last two innings. In the second game, Ben Bechtol led The Rock’s 12-hit attack with two singles and a double, but Garret Peterson and Anthony Naso both had a hand in allowing eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rock (9-15, 2-6) will host Lock Haven in a twinbill Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
