Orie jury continues to deliberate into weekend
PITTSBURGH — The jury in the political corruption trial of state Sen. Jane Orie began its third day of deliberations on Saturday morning.
The jury began deliberations Thursday afternoon and continued all day Friday, calling it quits at 10:45 p.m.
The five men and seven women returned Saturday to consider the fate of Orie, whose district includes southern Butler County.
The Republican lawmaker faces felony charges related to allegations she misused her state-paid staff and forced them to work on campaigns at taxpayers’ expense.
She faced three counts of perjury along with other counts of theft of service, forgery, tampering with evidence, obstruction of justice, criminal conspiracy and violations of the state’s Ethics Act.
The trial has stretched over nearly a month.
