SRU tops No. 5 Seton Hill
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Slippery Rock University’s baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and posted an 8-5 victory over No. 5 Seton Hill Thursday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.
The game marked the opening contest of The Rock’s 10-game spring break schedule.
Thursday’s win was SRU’s first over a top-10 ranked opponent since 1989, when The Rock finished third in the Division II Word Series.
Matt Curtis and Carter Haponski had two RBI each for SRU (4-5). Haponski, Derek Carr, Lee Foxton and Will Kengor all had two hits for The Rock.
Sophomore right-hander Lou Trivino worked 7.2 innings and struck out six to get the victory. Butler graduate Cody Herald played right field for Seton Hill, walked twice and scored a run.
The Griffins fell to 8-3 with the loss.
Track and Field
SRU’s Julia Cain placed 12th in the pole vault by clearing 3.60 meters Friday on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Mankato, Minn.
