PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say they have found some of the $2.3 million stolen from an armored truck allegedly by one of the guards after he shot his co-worker in the head. The suspect was still at large Wednesday.

Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Thomas Stangrecki said at a news conference that authorities have gotten numerous tips and have made progress in the case. He wouldn’t say where the money was found or how much.

Police allege that Kenneth Konias, 22, shot his partner in the back of the head inside a Garda Cash Logistics truck Feb. 28, then made off with the money.

Michael Haines, 31, was found fatally shot inside the armored truck when the vehicle was found idling under a bridge in Pittsburgh. Authorities say Konias called friends and family after the killing, and asked one person about extradition laws in Canada and Mexico.

“We believe that he’s still in the country,” Stangrecki said. “We’re reaching out to as many of his associates as possible.”
