Ex-Butler School Board member back on board
Helene Abramowitz will fill the ninth seat on the Butler School Board, Tom Doerr, Butler County president judge, announced this morning.
“I’m happy for the people who voted for me,” Abramowitz said. “Their voice is now being heard, and I’ll be able to represent them again.”
Abramowitz of Center Township ran in the November election for the board, but was not elected.
In choosing Abramowitz, Doerr accepted the recommendation of his three-person selection committee.
In November’s election, school board member Joe Wiest won a term as a Butler Township commissioner. He resigned to take that seat, and Abramowitz and three others applied to take his place.
However, in January the eight remaining board members split their votes 4 to 4 between two candidates, Abramowitz and Ben Holland.
Doerr agreed to name Wiest’s replacement after 12 people petitioned him to do so.
Doerr’s selection committee reviewed eight applicants for the position made a recommendation to the judge.
The other seven candidates were: Holland, Geoffrey Patterson, David Korn, William Walters, Scott Laconi, Scott Roskovski and Thomas Lavorini.
