Mary B. Kirkpatrick

Kirkpatrick

Mary B. Kirkpatrick, 90, formerly of Oak Hills Heights, Butler, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Butler on April 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Howard W. Badger and Lois Gould Badger.

Mary went to Indiana College for a fine arts degree, but left early to tend to her ailing mother. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She worked in the offices of Armco, now AK Steel. Mary worked at Kirkpatrick's Sporting Goods as a bookkeeper and as a Pendleton buyer for the store until her retirement.

Her favorite thing in the world was spending summers with her children and their friends at the cabin in Tionesta. She was a Boy Scout den mother, helped with all the muscular dystrophy carnivals, field trips, bake sales and everything else her children volunteered her for. She was a great seamstress and Halloween costume maker and even went ghost hunting one Halloween with her daughter and friends. Mary was always soft-spoken, gentle and infinitely patient and loving.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Carol Kirkpatrick of Butler; one son, Scott Kirkpatrick of Franklin; one brother, Dr. Frank W. Badger of Charleston, W.Va.; and by her absolutely beloved pup, Mr. Toby, a golden retriever/great Pyrenees.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kirkpatrick, who she married May 3, 1946, and who passed away April 20, 2007; one brother, Robert Badger; and one grandson, David “Scotty” Kirkpatrick.
