Local band Highway 4 earns spot in finals

Highway 4 band members, all from the Butler area, are, from left, Tylar Parker, Graham Huselton, Kelly Brown and Mike Angert.

Members of the Butler area rock 'n' roll band Highway 4 range in age from 19 to 21, just old enough for the 18-year-old requirement to participate in the X Winter Rock Showcase.

After getting through a round of online voting and a live semifinal, this young band will compete against three others in the finals at 9 p.m. Friday at Pittsburgh's Hard Rock Cafe, 230 W. Station Square Drive.

The award for the winning band includes $1,000 and a recording package, among other prizes.

Highway 4 consists of Tylar Parker on bass guitar, Graham Huselton on drums, Mike Angert on lead guitar and Kelly Brown on vocals.

The group first got together in April 2010. The boys were in an unofficial band but had their sights on a new set up. They played occasionally and mostly as a hobby.

Angert heard through a friend of a friend that Brown sang and, open for anything, the boys agreed to let her try out. Brown became acquainted with classic rock for the first time and quickly got down to learning an entire era of iconic music.

The four have gone on to entertain locally and statewide for the past year and a half.

The band plays both hits of the classic rock era as well as its own original songs, most written by Huselton.

The Highway 4 sound has developed through influences from Led Zeppelin, Rush, Tom Petty, Heart, The Who and AC/DC.

Tickets are $5 and bus transportation may be available by calling 724-496-2636.
