Zeigler

James Robert “Jim” Zeigler Sr., 72, of Zelienople went home to be with the Lord on Saturday surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on Jan. 5, 1940, to Omar and Anna (Reader) Zeigler.

He graduated from Zelienople High School in 1957, where he was a star quarterback and basketball player. He married his high school sweetheart, Loretta Wheeler, in 1958.

Jim owned and operated Zeigler Roofing and Heating, Inc., for more than 40 years and shepherded the growth of the business.

He loved his family unconditionally, and there was never a more loyal or loving friend or honest and honorable business associate. Jim was a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge 429 F&AM and a member of the English Lutheran Church where he was on the church council for several years. Jim served on the Zelienople Borough Council for more than 16 years and also was on the Zelienople Airport Authority.

Jim was involved in sprint car racing for 18 years. He owned his own race car, number 66, which won many races including several championships throughout the tri-state area. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, working in his yard, spending time at Conneaut Lake, and he was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jim's greatest legacy is the family he nurtured, who will always remember and cherish the support, advice, guidance, work ethic and life lessons that he taught them. He will be sadly missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his three children, Kim Z. Lewis of Ravenna, Ohio, James R. (Sheila) Zeigler Jr. of Zelienople and Ann Z. (William “Bill”) Schlichtkrull of Zelienople; his six grandchildren, Amanda Lewis, Ashley Lewis, Zachary Zeigler, Jacob Zeigler, Olivia Schlichtkrull and Emma Schlichtkrull; and his siblings, Joan Z. Nicklas and Jane Z. (Dean) Harvey, both of Zelienople.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Funeral services for James Robert “Jim” Zeigler Sr., who passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert A. Keplinger officiating.
