Katherine L. Fillhart
Katherine L. “Kay” Fillhart, 92, of Butler died Friday afternoon at her home.
Born Jan. 16, 1919, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late John and Loretta (Schnur) Steighner.
She was a 1937 graduate of Butler High School. She had been a long distance operator for Bell of Pennsylvania for over 25 years.
She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, the Women's Council of St. Peter, the Butler Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, and the C.B. Rangers.
She enjoyed traveling with the former Winnebago International Travelers Club, and she was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.
Surviving are three sons, Dennis (Denise) Fillhart of Butler, Randy Fillhart of Butler and Ted (Jean) Fillhart of Clayton, N.C.; four daughters, Marilyn DiGiacomo of Butler, Diane (Gary) Miano of Lyndora, Carole (Steve) Mason of Charleston, W.Va., and Barbara (Mike) Wolfender of Minnesota; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, John (Sheila) Steighner of St. Augustine, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Berton E. Fillhart, who she married May 13, 1940. He died June 7, 1983. She also was preceded in death by five brothers, four sisters and one grandson.
<B>FILLHART — </B>Friends of Katherine L. Fillhart, who died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, were received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the <B>GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Services were at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. James Dolan, pastor, will officiate. Internment followed in St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery in Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, PA 16001.
