PITTSBURGH — Anheuser-Busch and the Pittsburgh Pirates plan to open the Budweiser Bowtie Bar, the first new bar or restaurant at PNC Park since 2008.

The team expects it to open by opening day on April 5. The brewery, the team and concessionaire Aramark are funding the facility, which will cost between $500,000 and $1 million.

The Pirates plan to rent half of the bar to groups of 50 or more on game days, while the other half will be open to any fan with a ticket.

If the group space isn't rented, another 35 ticketed seats in that part of the lounge will be sold to the public, at a price yet to be determined.

The new lounge is next to the right field grandstand and gives fans a view of the field and the city's skyline.

CHAMPION — State police are investigating the death of a Pittsburgh-area skier who reportedly left a trail and hit his head on some rocks at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in southwestern Pennsylvania.Troopers from the Somerset barracks say 36-year-old David McClelland of Coraopolis was knocked unconscious and could not be revived by members of the resort’s ski patrol after crashing shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. He was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.Resort spokeswoman Anna Weltz says Tuesday resort officials are “deeply saddened” by the accident and their thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family, before referring all questions to police.
