BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College basketball teams dropped decisions to Potomac State Monday night.
Antawane Davis scored 17 points, Kevin Rummel had 16 points and four assists, John Tyler 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Pioneer men's 99-52 loss.
Casey Fleeger scored 22 points while Emily Wise added 10 points, Heather Cooper 12 rebounds and Karyn Larson 11 boards in the women's 86-49 defeat.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Five Slippery Rock University baseball players have been honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Preseason All-Atlantic Region team.Right-handed pitcher Ryan Oglesby earned first-team honors. He was 4-2 with seven saves and a 1.84 ERA last year.First baseman John Shaffer and right-hander Lou Trivino made second team. Shaffer hit .393 with five homers and Trivino was 4-1 with a 2.52 ERA.Outfielder Carter Haponski (.328) and left-hander Zach Jeney (6-3, 3.55) received honorable mention.The Rock opens the baseball season Feb. 18 vs. Ohio Valley University in Chillicothe, Ohio. First home game is March 18 against Gannon at Critchfield Park.
CENTER TWP — The Butler Elks No. 170 held their 40th annual local Hoop Shoot foul-shooting contest at the Center Township School. Winners are:C.J. Singleton (boys ages 8-9), 14 of 25; Grant Metzger (boys 10-11), 18 of 25; Ian McCarrier (boys 12-13), 21 of 25; Erin Gianneski (girls 8-9), 11 of 25; Audrey Hilliard (girls 10-11), 16 of 25; Jordin West (girls 12-13), 21 of 25.In the girls 12-13, West. Jen Miller and Kailey Olenick tied at 19 of 25 with West winning the shootout. In the 8-9 girls division, Gianneski won a double shootoff over Brianna Schmitzer.The representatives will advance to the district contest at Moon High School Saturday.
