Lawrence Joseph McCracken
Lawrence Joseph McCracken, 86, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Butler to the late Clyde McCracken and Hazel Knapp McCracken.
Mr. McCracken was a member of the North Street Christian Church.
He was a sheet metal worker for Local 12.
He was in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in World War II.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 117. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 694 and the Syria Shrine.
Mr. McCracken was an avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles, was a true handyman and loved to help or lend a hand to friends and family.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. McCracken is survived by his loving spouse, Virginia, who he married on Sept. 12, 1986; three sons, Charles L. (Joanne) McCracken, Robert L. (Debra) McCracken and Timothy J. McCracken; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leila Jane Winters McCracken; his second wife, Maxine Rockenstein McCracken; two brothers, Richard McCracken and Russell McCracken, and one sister, Margaret McCracken.
<B>McCRACKEN</B> — Friends of Lawrence Joseph McCracken, who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Huber officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
