Phyllis Jean Potter
Mrs. Phyllis Jean Potter, 83, of Atlantic Beach, Fla., formerly of Meridian, passed away Dec. 7, 2012, after a long illness with cancer, at the home of her daughter, Emily and son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Wannenburg of Atlantic Beach, Fla.
Born in Butler, to Basil and Jeanne Sones of Meridian, Mrs. Potter was a graduate of Butler High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended Clarion University and graduated from Pennsylvania State University.
In 1952, she married her husband, a graduate forester from Penn State. Assignments with the U.S. Forest Service took them to many locations in the U.S., including Harvard University. They had extended tours in Rome, Pakistan, and Lesotho, South Africa. Upon retirement in 1984, they lived in North Carolina for 24 years before moving to Florida.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Robert V. Potter of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; daughters, Mrs. Robin Morgan of Bethesda, Md., Mrs. Amy Imbody of Ashburn, Va., and Mrs. Emily Wannenburg of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; brother, Col. Vernon Sones, USA (Ret.) of Annandale, Va.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
POTTER — Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Jean Potter, who passed away Dec. 7, 2012, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, Salisbury, N.C.
