Myrtle E. Shannon
Myrtle E. Walker Shannon, 101, of Renfrew passed away Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at her daughter’s residence.
She was born Feb. 16, 1911, in Connoquenessing Township to the late Alexander Walker and Lauretta (Rasely) Walker.
Mrs. Shannon was a member of White Oaks Presbyterian Church for 87 years, serving as a former deacon. She was a 1930 graduate from Butler High School.
Mrs. Shannon was a charter and former member of the Buttercup Garden Club, a former member of the Connoquenessing Fire Department ladies auxiliary, Thursday women’s club and the Ella Lyle Missionary Society. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking and quilting. Mrs. Shannon helped her husband with the Shannon’s apple orchard.
Mrs. Shannon is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Orsborn and her husband, Robert, of Renfrew; two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Alfonsi and her husband, James, of Livonia, Mich., and Jeffrey M. Orsborn and his wife, Elizabeth, of Butler; four great-grandchildren, Julia V. Alfonsi, Joseph M. Orsborn, Daniel R. Orsborn and Ryan C. Orsborn; one brother-in-law, Frank R. Shannon of Butler; and also by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Meade E. Shannon, who she married Sept. 12, 1940, and who passed away March 31, 2005; and also by one brother, four sisters, three nephews and one niece.
SHANNON — Friends of Myrtle E. Walker Shannon, who died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, will be received Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Stephen M.
