David Wheeler Johnson

David Wheeler Johnson, 69, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday at his home in Florida.

He was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Pittsburgh, to the late William Johnson and Lois Downie Johnson.

Mr. Johnson worked at Butler Armco Steel in the locomotive/transportation department and retired in April 2000.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Johnson was a member of VFW Post 249 in Butler.

He enjoyed boating and fishing and he coached little league baseball for the Butler Area Baseball Association for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Butler County Community College, receiving an associate degree in accounting.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Wampler Johnson, who he married on March 31, 1967; three sons, Jerry Johnson and his wife, Lisa, of Butler, Chuck Johnson and his wife, Paula, of Butler, and Scott Johnson and his wife, Angie, of Ringold, Ga.; one daughter, Robin Johnson of Butler; 11 grandchildren, Kristen Leslie and her husband, Nick, Lacey Johnson, Sammy Baird, Joelie Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Gage Johnson, Gehrig Johnson, Cody Johnson, Dalton Johnson and Gabby Johnson; three great grandchildren, Rachel Leslie, Ivory Johnson and Ryan Leslie; two brothers, William Johnson of Butler and Paul Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Shawn E. Johnson.

The wife and children of David Johnson would like to give special thanks to Thomas Wampler for his help as a caretaker during the past year.

JOHNSON — Friends of David Wheeler Johnson, who died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Robert C. Huber of North Street Christian Church officiating.
