Daniel Edward Surrena
Daniel Edward Surrena, 96, of Chicora Medical Center, Fairview Township, formerly of West Liberty Borough, Slippery Rock, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chicora Medical Center.
Born in Murrinsville, Marion Township, on July 15, 1916, he was the son of Harry Martin Surrena and Wilda Bell Martland Surrena.
He worked for 23 years at Pittsburgh Limestone in Annandale, Pa., where he was a shuttle car operator. He then worked for 20 years at the Penreco refinery in Karns City where he retired as a supervisor.
He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and card games.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel O. Surrena (Donna) of Chicora and Robert P. Surrena of Mesa, Ariz.; one stepson, Raymond McGinnis Jr. of Apple Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Wilda Ann Lopez of Converse City, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Nancy Tiche of Slippery Rock and Evelyn Newton (Max) of Portersville; 32 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Jean Phipps, Mary G. Arblaster Edwards and Dorothy Louise Baker McGinnis; two sons, Hilton Surrena and an infant son; four stepdaughters, Linda Kelly, Lois Faye Montest, Ann “Tinker” Hiwiller and Jeannie McGinnis; a stepgrandson, Denny Kelly; six brothers, Martin, Bert, Claude, Paul, Merle and Earl; three sisters, May McKean, Myrtle Simons and Marie Webster; one grandson, Jesse Surrena; one stepgrandson, Denny Kelly; one stepgranddaughter, Regina; and two sons-in-law, Denny Kelly Sr. and Eugene Tiche.
SURRENA — Visitation for Daniel Edward Surrena, who died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, will be at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Kenton Shaw, retired pastor, formerly of the Wayside Covenant Church, Grove City, will preside. Interment will be in Clintonville M.E. Cemetery, Clintonville Borough, Venango County.
