Bryce W. 'Bill' Shearer
Bryce W. “Bill” Shearer 84 of Slippery Rock passed away at his home at 1 a.m. Monday following an extended illness.
Born in Connoquenessing on Oct. 13, 1927, he was the son of John Bryce Shearer and Mabel K. Watson Shearer.
He married Donna Green on Sept. 2, 1949, and she preceded him in death on April, 18, 2006.
He retired as a supervisor on the erection floor at Cooper Energy, formerly called Cooper Bessemer, Grove City, after 40 years.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He entered the service in 1945 and was discharged in 1948. He served on the USS Conserver ARS-39.
He was a life member of the Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church, Worth Township, and was a member of the F&AM Lodge 603 of Grove City, the Slippery Rock Sportsman's Association, and the American Legion Post 852 in Harrisville.
Survivors include a son, Daniel B. and his wife, Debra, Shearer of Slippery Rock; a daughter, Susan D. Shearer of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Amanda DeMarco, Amy Brandon, and Ashlee, Matt and Carly Shearer; and two sisters, Hazel Shollenberger of Greenville, Pa., and JoAnn Raney of Enon Valley, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, David, and a sister Jean Henry.
<B>Shearer</B> — Family and friends of Bryce W. “Bill” Shearer, who died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, will be received at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. A service will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.
