Search aboard the Costa Concordia resumes
ROME — The search for 21 people missing after a cruise ship grounded off the Tuscan coast has resumed above the water line after officials determined the ship has stabilized.
Coast guard spokesman Cosimo Nicastro said today that authorities will determine in the morning whether to send divers back to search sections of the partially submerged vessel that are now under water.
The search of the Costa Concordia was stopped earlier today after the vessel shifted again.
The $450 million cruise ship was carrying more than 4,200 passengers and crew when it slammed into well-charted rocks off the island of Giglio a week ago. Eleven people are confirmed dead.
