Bad weather prompts 2nd art reception at Bottlebrush
HARMONY — The Bottlebrush Gallery will celebrate again its Slippery Rock University Student Art Exhibit with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
“The opening reception was Friday, Jan. 13, but due to the snow, we are also holding a closing reception (Friday),” said M.J. Isles-McCurdy, co-owner and manager of the gallery and an SRU alum.
The 51-piece exhibit features collage, jewelry, sculpture, pen and ink drawing, paintings, a video art display and a variety of other works from 22 Slippery Rock University students and assistant professor Barbara Westman.
Nine of the pieces in this show are for sale, ranging in price from $26 to $350.
The gallery at 539 Main St. was established in 2007 in a historic building built by the Harmonists in 1810.
The Bottlebrush features regional artists spanning a wide variety of genres from jewelry to sculpture and fiber art to glass and pottery. More than 75 artists display their work in the gallery.
In addition to art, the Bottlebrush hosts “Harmony in the House,” a series of small venue, acoustic concerts.
“Scheduled every month and featuring traveling musicians from Nashville and Baltimore along with local musicians like Tom Panei from Butler, every show has been sold out,” Isles-McCurdy said.
The site is also the home of “Songwriters in Harmony,” which is billed as the region’s first local singer-songwriter workshop which meets the third Thursday of each month.
Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
