PITTSBURGH — An Allegheny County judge has reiterated an order that reassessed 2012 property values must be heeded by the city of Pittsburgh and its public schools.

Judge R. Stanton Wettick’s Friday order comes after new county Executive Rich Fitzgerald told residents to ignore court-ordered property reassessments that doubled or even quadrupled the taxable value of some homes, sparking a public outcry.

More than 100,000 residents in Pittsburgh and neighboring Mount Oliver have already received the new assessments, but those in more than 100 other county municipalities have yet to receive theirs.

All the legal posturing might wind up being for naught, however, as Wettick has set a status conference on Tuesday to consider the city’s request to use 2002 property values for another year. That would give county property owners more time to appeal reassessments they believe are unreasonable.
