Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, loans out snowshoes and trekking skis during December on a first-come, first-served basis between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The center will be open on snowy Saturdays in addition to its regular Monday through Friday hours, with staff on hand to loan equipment and assist borrowers. A valid driver’s license or identification card is needed. Orientation and brief instruction will be provided upon request. To find out if the center will be open on a Saturday, call before 4 p.m. on the prior Friday. Jennings is open regularly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011 to confirm programs.
Moraine State Park has late season archery hunting Monday through Jan. 16. Some areas normally closed to hunting will be open to archery only. Call 724-368-8811. A first day hike, hosted by Butler Outdoor Club, is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 1 from McDanel’s Launch on the North Shore. This will be a 2-mile hike over moderate terrain.
