BUTLER TWP — Former Slippery Rock University standout Adam Jury has been named hitting coach of the Butler BlueSox for the 2012 season.

Jury takes over for Frank Sirolli, who has been offered a position with the All-Star Baseball Academy in New Jersey.

Jury hit .335 with 12 homers and 125 RBIs as SRU's shortstop/third baseman from 2008-11. He hit .257 with nine doubles, a homer, 24 RBIs and five stolen bases with the BlueSox in 2010.

WEXFORD — The Presidents' Athletic Conference has accepted Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve as affiliate members in football, beginning in 2014.Case Western had been in the PAC from 1955-84. Carnegie Mellon was a full PAC member from 1968-89.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Six Slippery Rock University women's soccer players have been named Division II NSCAA All-Region this season.Emer Flarley, Shelby Ward and Kara Mullins made first team, Lucy Hannon and Butler graduate Lisa Rodgers second team, Alyssa Barrett third team.

GROVE CITY — Grove City College senior nose tackle Jarred Frawley has been invited to participate in the 2011 Tazon de Estrellas, a Division III all-star football game Saturday in Puebla, Mexico.Frawley recorded 39 tackles this season, including 11 1/2 for loss, and was voted the Wolverines’ MVP by his teammates.<B></B>

NEW YORK — Baseball's new labor contract includes more video replay, the chance for a longer All-Star break and a small, but likely welcome perk for players: the chance to get a private room instead of a roommate during spring training.

DENVER — The Denver Nuggets acquired versatile swingman Rudy Fernandez and forward Corey Brewer from the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday for a future second-round pick.The trade gives the Nuggets added depth. The team also signed Brazilian center Nene to a five-year deal on Tuesday night.
