Butler County is filled with a variety of people doing interesting things.This weekly feature offers snapshots of some of them by asking them five questions.The latest installment appears below.———Friday marks opening night for the high school boys and girls basketball season.Kate Miller is a 5-foot-2 senior guard and returning starter for the Knoch varsity girls basketball team.Here, she shares some of her thoughts about the sport and her team.
QUESTION: What do you do to prepare for basketball season?ANSWER: Just shoot and practice. I never stop playing, really. The game is year-round for me. I come from a basketball family. My dad used to coach and both of my brothers play.
QUESTION: What first got you interested in basketball?ANSWER: My dad (Bill Miller) coached basketball at Butler County Community College back in the day. I grew up with it. Like I said, my brothers played ... I didn't have much choice, really.
QUESTION: Who is your favorite basketball player and why?ANSWER: Michael Jordan. I looked up to him when I was a little girl. He's a great role model for kids because he got cut by his high school team and never gave up. He kept pursuing his dream and great things happened.
QUESTION: What is your biggest basketball memory?ANSWER: It's the time off the court, the get-togethers with the team. We do spaghetti dinners, have movie nights ... Being part of a team and growing close in friendship is my favorite part of sports.
QUESTION: What do you still want to accomplish in the game?ANSWER: Just to have a successful season and be a part of that. After each game, I want all of us to be able to look each other in the face and know we played our absolute best, whether we won or lost. That's what I want to experience.
