Snowy owl Fleury makes flight debut
PITTSBURGH — Fleury the snowy owl is making his public debut Thanksgiving weekend in the free-flight holiday bird show at the National Aviary, 700 Arch St.
The show will run daily at noon and 3 p.m. (no show Tuesdays) from Friday through Jan. 2.
The year-old owl has been in training these past few months and is sure to turn heads with his brilliant black and white plumage, golden eyes and regal demeanor.
The holiday show includes a comical and informational twist on the traditional carol sing. Many of the aviary’s most popular birds make appearances in conjunction with their favorite carols, including “Duck the Halls,” “I’m Dreaming of a White Chicken,” and “Ruby the Red-Feathered Macaw.”
Fleury has a new carol written just for him — “Snowy Owl” to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”
General admission is $13 for adults; $12 for senior citizens; $11 for children ages 2 to 12; and free for children younger than 2. Tickets to Wings!, which includes the holiday bird show, are an additional $5.
Other holiday activities planned at the aviary are:
