Shirley Ann Critchlow Phipps, 72, of Butler passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospice.

She was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Harrisville to the late Warren Critchlow and Evelyn Bartley Critchlow.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Butler.

Mrs. Phipps graduated from Harrisville High School in 1957 and attended Asbury College, receiving a bachelor's degree in sociology.

She worked as a social worker for Butler County, retiring February 2007.

Mrs. Phipps served as president of the First United Methodist Women, and she was a teacher of the post high school Sunday school class for 25 years. She was on the board of Butler County Mental Health, the CCR Board and a Stephen Minister.

As a cancer survivor, Mrs. Phipps was a speaker to patients and caregivers for cancer support.

Mrs. Phipps is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stone and her husband, Pat, of Butler; two sons, the Rev. Dr. Rich Phipps and his wife, Marsha, of Manor, Pa., and Randy Phipps and his wife, Rita, of Perrysburg, Ohio; six grandchildren, Katie Stone, Tyler Stone, McKenna Phipps, Abigael Phipps, Matthew Phipps and Kade Phipps; one brother, Richard Critchlow and his wife, Roseanne, of The Villages, Fla.; two nephews, Rich Critchlow of New York and Tim Critchlow of New York; one niece, Debbie Critchlow Williams of Florida; one great-nephew; and two great-nieces.

<B>PHIPPS</B> — Friends of Shirley Ann Critchlow Phipps, who died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, will be received at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Rich Phipps of Community United Methodist Church in Manor and the Rev. Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist officiating.
