IRWIN — Police have charged a man with faking a mugging in a hotel tavern bathroom because he was too embarrassed to acknowledge that he passed out and hit his head on a sink.

Reid Hilinski, of North Huntingdon Township, told the AP Thursday evening that he did falsely report a robbery, but that an assault happened.

But Irwin Police Chief Joseph Pocsatko said surveillance video didn’t support the 23-year-old’s account.
