JEFFERSON TWP — A fire Sunday morning leveled a large garage on Lefever Lane, destroying $100,000 worth of tools and a ski boat, authorities said.

The blaze broke out shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the 50- by 50-foot unattached garage at Doug Lefever’s home, said Christopher Dean, rescue lieutenant for the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

Lefever’s father, who lives nearby, spotted the smoke amid the dense morning and alerted his son.

Doug Lefever, a captain for the Saxonburg VFC, was inside his house, some 300 feet from the garage, but was unaware of the fire. By the time firefighters got there, flames were tearing through the two-bay garage, constructed of wood with metal siding. Part of the roof had already caved into the building.
